What is The Cost of Studying in Thailand?

Every year about 20,000 foreign students studies in Thailand. This brings into the question of how many universities are actually in Thailand to serve 20,000 international students and the unaccounted Thai students. To put things in perspective, there are 80 public universities and 71 private higher education institutions. Out of the 80, 63 are labelled as limited admission universities, 2 open universities and 15 autonomous universities, again of which 2 are Buddhist universities.

The fee is directly related to the number and type of universities and hence it varies according to the universities and programs. The tuition fee to pursue a Master’s degree at a public university is usually about $1,000 to $2,000 per year. On the other hand, tuition fee for the same in private universities is about $75 to $125 per credit hour.

And since completing a Master’s degree requires students at least 36 credit hours, that tuition fee figure becomes about $2,700 to $4,500.

So, obviously studying at private institutions is costlier.

As per a recent study, accommodation in Thailand can cost around $2,807 per year and other costs of living can amount up to $4,250. These numbers are approximate of what an average student might spend every month. And these are dependent on the way of life and habits of the students.
